Short introduction

We are delighted to welcome back Prof. Dr. Norbert Miklós Wikonkál to the Csalogány Medical Center, a leading authority in dermatology and dermato-oncology in Hungary and one of the clinic's founders.

Professor Wikonkál has several decades of clinical experience in the diagnosis and treatment of skin diseases. His main area of expertise is the prevention, early diagnosis, and state-of-the-art treatment of skin cancers, including melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers. He is also a nationally and internationally recognized leading authority on inflammatory dermatological conditions, including psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, hidradenitis suppurativa, alopecia areata, and vitiligo. His work places strong emphasis on digital dermoscopic examination of moles and other skin lesions, risk factor assessment, and the development of personalized follow-up and treatment plans.

Professional background

He is a university professor at the Department of Dermatology, Venereology and Dermato-oncology at Semmelweis University, and a board-certified dermatologist and oncologist. He earned his PhD in 2000, habilitated in 2006, has been a Doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (DSc) since 2013, and was appointed full professor in 2014. He worked in the Netherlands for just over a year, followed by a period at Yale University in the United States between 1996 and 2001. His research focuses on the skin-damaging and carcinogenic effects of ultraviolet radiation, as well as the molecular processes underlying the development of skin cancers.

He has published his scientific findings in numerous professional publications, and is also actively involved in the education and professional development of medical students, residents, and PhD students.

He served as President of the Hungarian Dermatological Society from 2022 to 2025 and is now its Past President, as well as Chair of the Hidradenitis Suppurativa Section and a board member. He is a committed advocate for reliable patient education, prevention, and the early detection of skin cancers. In recognition of his outstanding teaching, Semmelweis University awarded him the "Excellent PhD Supervisor" title.
