5+1 symptoms when you should see a dermatologist

Skin defects and various changes are frequently observed symptoms, but at the same time, there are thousands of conditions that threaten the health of the skin. There are diseases that appear with mild symptoms, but more serious problems make everyday life significantly more difficult. In case of redness, itching, inflammation, pain and skin rashes, be sure to consult a dermatologist! Dermatology treatments make your skin more beautiful, and regular examinations can save your life. In the case of the following 5+1 skin conditions, be sure to request an examination appointment from our specialists!

1. Acne / pimple-prone skin

Acne is the most common skin problem that causes many inflamed symptoms on the face, including pimples, blackheads and deep nodules. The reason for their origin is the greasiness of the skin, i.e. the increased activity of the sebaceous glands, which clogs the pores, and then a characteristic bacterial superinfection occurs. Acne is a common problem in the teenage years, but it can also appear later in life. Skin blemishes usually develop on the face, neck, back, chest and shoulders. Acne can also be associated with internal medicine diseases, hormonal disorders, and hair loss, so a specialist examination is definitely warranted for examination and treatment. Long-term, untreated acne can lead to scarring, the appearance of which makes everyday life difficult and can also cause mental problems. Everyone wants beautiful, clear skin, and without proper treatment, these skin blemishes can cause permanent skin damage. Acne can be treated with drug therapy and with the help of external, local treatment and creams, tailored to the individual.

2. Eczema / dry, itchy skin

Eczema is an umbrella term for a number of acute or chronic skin conditions that result in red, dry skin and inflammation with an itchy sensation. This state is uncomfortable and emotionally taxing. The most common type of eczema is atopic dermatitis, which often develops in infants and children with exudative rashes and itching on the face, diapered areas, and other parts of the body. A skin examination reveals the type of eczema, so the disease can be cured with appropriate treatment and skin care, and subsequent worsening of the symptoms can be prevented.

3. Rosacea / inflamed facial skin prone to redness

Rosacea is a chronic skin condition that can also affect the eyes. It involves reddening of the skin, which appears on the nose, cheeks and chin, but can also extend to the ears and chest. Swelling and puffiness may develop on the skin, and in severe cases the skin may thicken. Women and fair-skinned people are more likely to develop rosacea, and the cause of its development is not entirely clear. It is caused by the sudden dilation of the blood vessels, which can be caused by heat, exercise, sunshine, wind, cold, spicy food and alcohol or stress, which factors can also aggravate the symptoms. Rosacea can be cured with appropriate medication and topical treatment and lifestyle changes.

4. Psoriasis / itchy, scaly skin symptoms

Psoriasis is a disease of immune origin, which is caused by the too rapid reproduction of epithelial cells: the excess epithelial cells accumulate on the skin surface in the form of scaly peeling plaques. Spots covered with silvery scales are formed primarily on the elbows, knees, legs, face and scalp, rarely on the soles, nails, and genitals. They can become thick, red, itchy and painful. In order to establish a diagnosis, a suitable specialist examination is necessary, since in some cases the symptoms of psoriasis and eczema can be confused. Psoriasis is a chronic disease that can be treated with topical skin care products in the case of milder symptoms, and with medicinal support of the immune system in the case of extensive inflammation. In case of severe symptoms, it is very important to start medication as soon as possible, since the inflammatory state leads to an increase in the risk of many internal diseases.

5. Symptoms of skin cancer / changed or irregular birthmark, non-healing wound on the skin

Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer, but at the same time, it is the easiest to cure if detected early. The most dangerous form of skin cancer is melanoma, which can be fatal due to its tendency to metastasize. There are several signs that you should consult a dermatologist: if the size, symmetry, shape, color, thickness of the existing mole changes, or if a strange mole, different from other moles, appears on your skin. In addition to melanoma, there are other types of skin cancer that you should pay attention to: if you have a non-healing wound on your skin or a growth that grows, itches, hurts, or bleeds. Have all moles and growths on your skin checked regularly! If there was no malignant change in the family, it is advisable to see a dermatologist once a year for screening. If there was skin cancer in the family, or if you had to remove a mole from your body, then you should have your moles examined at least every six months, because routine examinations can save your life!

+1 Signs of skin aging

As you age, the skin changes, its hydration decreases, wrinkles and discoloration may develop, which processes can be accelerated by the harmful effects of the sun's ultraviolet rays, smoking, stress and many other factors. Sun protection is therefore very important, and in addition, not smoking and a healthy diet protect the skin against aging. The treatment of wrinkles and other skin defects associated with aging and the tightening of the skin can now be solved with routine treatments, and targeted aesthetic dermatological treatments also improve the texture and color of the skin. The topic of mesotherapy, Botox treatment and fillings will be discussed in detail in our next blog posts, stay tuned!
